Sweet Music & Bubblegum - forum set tutorial

Picture
This tutorial was written on April 19 2015. I used Corel X7, but it should work in other versions as well.
Any similarity to any other tutorial is purely coincidental.
Please look at my TOU for more info.

The supplies you need:
A tube of choice. I used a tube by Veronica Nuñez. You can purchase her art at Digital Art Heaven. You need a license to use her art.
You’ll need an animation. I’m using “bars” by Missy at Devine Intentionz.
Remember that animations can be colourized to match the tube you use.
(Look at example at the bottom)
A font of choice. I used a font called “Bubblegun”.

Materials/plugins used:
Mura Meister Copies
AlienSkin EyeCandy 5 Perspective Shadow (Optional)
EyeCandy 4000 Gradient Glow
AnimationShop or Photoshop for animating.
IMPORTANT: DO NOT CROP UNTIL I SAY SO FURTHER DOWN.
This can mess up the result of the effects you’re using.

Before we start, I would like to point out that I do my animations in Photoshop. Because of that, I start by opening the animation in PSP. I opened this particular animation in Animation Shop, selected all the frames, copied them and pasted as new image in PSP. I then, cropped it to 600x250.
If you animate in AS, you can skip what I just told you and add the animation at the end.
This will obviously affect how you start the creation. The regular way:

Make a new image 600x250 floodfilled with white.
(My way: Add a new layer and move it to the bottom. Floodfill with white.)

Copy and paste your tube.
Add Mura Meister Copies - Wallpaper Rotate - Default settings.(Make sure that the tube is covering the whole canvas. Repeat MM if you need to.)

Duplicate this layer.
On the original tube layer; go to Effects - Texture Effects - Mosaic Antique at these settings:
Picture
On the copy layer; Adjust Blur - Gaussian Blur set to 5. Change this layer to Overlay or another
suitable blend mode.
On the same layer, add Effects - Distortion Effect - Curlicues with these settings:
Picture
Then go to Effects - Edge Effects and Enhance More. Reduce opacity to 50%.

Activate the top layer and add your tube. I had to resize mine to 50%. Place on left side of the canvas and add a dropshadow of choice.
I used AlienSkin EyeCandy 5 Impact - Perspective Shadow with these settings:
Picture
Crop your tag with Merge Opaque.

Make sure you’re still on the top layer and add a new layer. Floodfill with a contrasting colour from your tube. I used the blue colour that is on the animation: #3bcafe
Select All - Contract by 4. Floodfill the selection with black, contract by 1 and delete. Select none.
Add a dropshadow to the frame: 0,0,100,10, Black.

Add a wordart of choice. I’m using the one that comes with the tube.
I resized it down to 50% and added a dropshadow: 2,2,50,5, Black.
I moved it to the top right corner.

Activate your text tool. Change the font to Bubblegun, size 60 px, Anti-alias Smooth, Create as Vector. Type your name and convert to raster.
Add EyeCandy 4000 Gradient Glow with these settings:
Picture
Add copyright info.

Animate:
If you animate in Photoshop, just save the file as PSD and open it in PS. Animate as you usually do.
If you need a tutorial on how to animate in Photoshop, Abstract has one HERE. This is how to add animations to a premade tag.
And Rebel Dezigns has a different tutorial on how to animate in PS. This one is great if you add the animation in your PSP (like I do). Check it out HERE.
If you animate in Photoshop, please remember to set the speed on the frames to 0.1

If you animate in Animation Shop and haven’t added the animation to your tag in PSP, here’s what you do:
Close all layers except the 4 layers at the bottom. Copy merged and paste in AS.
Duplicate the layer so you have the same amount of frames as the animation has.
Add the animation like you usually do. Go back to your PSP, close off the 4 bottom layers, unhide the rest. Copy merged again and paste it to your tag in AS, the way you normally do it.

Sorry for not being more detailed with how to do things in AS, but it’s been a long time since I animated with AS.
Save your creation as gif and you’re done!

Here are 2 other sample made by my friends Heidi and Kat:

This tutorial was written on February 08 2015. I used Corel X7, but it should work in other versions as well.
Any similarity to any other tutorial is purely coincidental.
Please look at my TOU for more info.

The supplies you need:
An tube of choice. I used a tube by Kathy Siney called Cherrybaby.
You can purchase her art at Digital Art Heaven.
A font of choice. I used a font called “Baby Lexi”.

Materials used:
MuraMeister – Copies
Eye Candy 5 – Textures – Marble (Other versions work as well)
Eye Candy 6 – Perspective Shadow (Optional)

Make a new image 600x250 and flood fill it with white. Add a new raster and flood fill with a colour from the tube.
Set background to white, foreground null and activate your rectangle preset shape. Draw out
a thin line across the canvas. Center in canvas and convert to raster.
Go to Effects – MuraMeister – Copies and change the settings to this:
Picture
You might have to play with the Gap settings, depending on how thick your white line is.
Activate your selection tool, set to rectangle and choose Custom Selection with these numbers:
Picture
Still on the striped layer, promote Selection to layer. Deselect. Rotate this layer 90 degrees to left or right and move it to the left half of your canvas. Do the same steps for the coloured background. Deselect. Move the promoted background to the left a bit so it's not sticking out. See my tag for reference.
Hide the top 2 layers for now.
Go to the striped layer.
Go to Adjust – Blur – Radial Blur and add these settings:
Picture
Go to the coloured background, click Effects – Eye Candy 5 - Textures – Marble.
You can play around with the settings if you like, but use colours that match your tube.
Here are the settings I used:
Picture
Add a close-up of your tube, mirror it and place it to the far right. Change the layer properties to Soft Light or one of the other options. Add a drop shadow to the close-up
Crop your tag with Merge Opaque.

Unhide the top 2 layers and merge the striped layer down to the one below it.
The layer name is Promoted Selection 1.
Duplicate this layer and rotate the copy 90 degrees to left or right.
Move this to the left side and change the layer properties to Soft Light.
Add a drop shadow to the original layer. I used 0-0-100-10-Black.

Make sure you're on the top layer and add the tube.
Add a drop shadow I used Eye Candy Perspective Shadow with the blurry setting.
Add a new layer and flood fill with black.
Select all, contract by 1, invert and delete. Select none.
Add drop shadow 0-0-100-10-Black.
Add your name and copyright.
Save as jpg and you're done!

Thanks for trying my tutorial.
Here is another sample, using art by Jen Lambein.
Do NOT use her art without permission.

Go HERE to see the animated version if you can't see it above.
This tutorial was written on September 14, 2013. I used Corel X5, but it should work in other versions as well.
Any similarity to any other tutorial is purely coincidental.
Please look at my TOU for more info.

The supplies you need:
An tube of choice. I used a tube by Mischa Marple.  At the time I wrote this tutorial, she was selling at My Tubed Art. I don't know where she is selling now, but I will update the tutorial when I find out.
Template 129 by Spawn. You can download it from his blog HERE. Don’t forget to check out all his other templates as well. They are awesome!
A font of choice. I used “Black Asylum”.

Materials used:
Animation Shop
Toadies – Living Sine (Circular)
Xero – Fritillary
Eye Candy 6 – Perspective Shadow (Optional)

Drop shadow used in this tutorial: 2, 2, 70 7, Black.

Open the template in your PSP and press Shift D. Close the original template.
Delete the credits layer on the template.
Activate the background layer. Add Toadies Living Sine (Circular) with the default settings.

If you use a different tube, please feel free to play with the settings so you get colours that match your tube. Alternatively, you can make a gradient with colours from your tube and floodfill with that instead.
Add Xero Fritillary with these settings on the Main Background:
Picture
Go to Effects – Edge Effects and choose Enhance.

Activate the Edges Spirals. Go to Adjust – Brightness/Contrast and move the Brightness bar all the way to the max.
Add a drop shadow.

Go to the Left Spiral Background. Select All – Float and Defloat. Add Toadies Living Sine again, using the same settings as before. Deselect.
Repeat this with the Right Spiral Background.

Activate the Left Spiral Background and duplicated this 4 times, so you have a total of 5 copies of it.
On each of these layers, go to Image – Free Rotate and with these settings:
Leave the original Left Spiral Background as it is.
Duplicate 1 – 72.00 degrees to the left.
Duplicate 2 – 144.00 degrees to the left.
Duplicate 3 – 216.00 degrees to the left.
Duplicate 4 – 288.00 degrees to the left.

Do the same with the Right Spiral Backgrounds, but rotate them to the RIGHT instead.
Once you’re done, move the layers on the right side so the layers look like this:
Picture
With ”Copy (4) of Right Spiral Background” active, merge that down to Copy (4) of Left Spiral Background, so that one left side and one right side is merged together. Do this for the other Spiral Backgrounds as well.
Hide all the Spiral Backgrounds except for the first layer.

Add  a close up of the tube or a tube in full size. Place it on the left side, on top of the Left Spiral Background. Change the Blend Mode on the tube to Luminace (L), duplicate and mirror. Merge these two tubes together.
Go to the layer below, Select All – Float – Defloat – Invert, go back to the tube layer and hit Delete.

Once you’re done, go to the Left Spiral and add a drop shadow. Do the same for Right Spiral.

Now it’s time to add your tube again. Place it in the center.
I resized mine to 80% but it depends on the tube.
Add drop shadow. I used Eye Candy 6 – Perspective Shadow with the Blurry setting.

Activate the Border layer. Go to Adjust – Brightness/Contrast and move the Brightness bar all the way to the left.

Add your name and copyright info.
I added a Gradient Glow to the name, but this is optional.

Time to animate!

Make sure that all the Spiral Backgrounds are closed off except the bottom one. Copy Merged and paste it as a new animation in Animation Shop.
Go back to your PSP, hide the first Spiral Background and unhide the next. Copy Merged, go back to AS and Paste After Current Frame. Continue like this until you have done it to all the Spiral Background layers.
Once you’re done, still in AS, press Ctrl and A to select all the frames. Go to Animation – Frame Properties and change it to 20. Save as a gif.

Thanks for trying my tutorial.

Here is one for Spawn as well. Thanks for the awesome template my friend!
HERE is the animated version.

This tutorial was written on September 10, 2013. I used Corel X5, but it should work in other versions as well.
Any similarity to any other tutorial is purely coincidental.
Please look at my TOU for more info.

The supplies you need:
An image of choice. I used an image by Ella Jeans. I purchased this when she was selling at MTA. You can purchase her art at her website.
A font of choice. I used “A Gentle Touch".

Materials used:
Toadies – What Are You?
VM Toolbox – Motion Trail
Eye Candy 4000 – Gradient Glow

Drop shadow used in this tutorial: 2, 2, 50, 5, Black.

Create a new image 600 x 300 and paste the image you are going to use. You might have to resize it if it’s too big, or move it around so that you get the part of the image you want to use. I rotated mine and resized it with the pick tool so it’s a little bit bigger than the canvas size.

I tubed some of the flowers from the image to make them pop out more. This is optional.

Activate the Rectangle Tool, set it to Square, line with 5. Draw out a square. See my siggie for placement and size.

Duplicate it 3 times and move in to position. Merge the frames and move underneath the tubed flowers (if you did this).

Duplicate the image layer so you have a total of 4 (1 original and 3 duplicates).

With your Magic Wand active, click inside all the 4 frames, Expand by 5, Invert

Go to the top duplicate of the image hit Delete. Deselect.

On the duplicate below, put Toadies – What Are you at default setting, lower the opacity to about 50 (depending on your image).

On the layer below that, put VM Toolbox – Motion Trail at default settings. Change the layer properties to Luminance (L) or another suitable effect. Edge Effect – Enhance.

If you haven’t tubed bits from your image, you can add any embellishments you want now. Place these above the frames and add a drop shadow. My settings are mentioned at the beginning of the tutorial. Add the same drop shadow to the frame layer.

Activate the top layer and add a new raster layer. Floodfill with a dark colour from the image. I chose black.
Select all and contract by 7. Hit delete. Do NOT deselect. Invert the selection, contract by 1 and floodfill with the same colour you used for the frames earlier. Deselect and add a drop shadow : 0, 0, 100, 10, Black.

Add your name and copyright info. I used Gradient Glow at the default setting with these numbers; 3, 25, 100 and a contrasting colour from the image.

Save as jpg.

Avatar:

Click Shift D on the siggie you just finished. Activate the crop function and change the size to 150x150 px. Move it around to find a suitable piece you want to keep and crop it. Delete the blank layers and add the same outer frame and drop shadow  as you did on the siggie. Add your initials or name, copyright info and save.

Thanks for trying my tutorial.

Butterfly - a forum set tutorial

Butterfly
Picture
This tutorial was written on July 16, 2013. I used Corel X3, but it should work in other versions as well.
It’s assumed that you have working knowledge on how to use filters/plugins.
Any similarity to any other tutorial is purely coincidental.
Please look at my TOU for more info.

The supplies you need:
A close-up of a tube you decide on. I’m using a stunning tube by Terra Bidlespacher. She was selling at MTA when this tutorial was written. I don't know where she is selling now, but I will update the tutorial when I find out.
In my second example at the bottom, I used the gorgeous art of Rita Kirby. You have to have a license number to use her art. I don't know if her art is available anymore. I will update this if I find out.
A font of choice. I used “TrashButterfly”

Materials you need:
Mura Meister – Copies
Eye Candy 6 – Perspective Shadow (or other versions)
Eye Candy 6 – Texture – Swirl (or older versions)
Eye Candy 4000 – Gradient Glow (Optional)

Open up a new canvas; 600x250 px and flood fill with a colour from the tube. I used #7ebfbd.
Duplicate this layer so you have 4 layers of it in total. We’ll use these later.
Paste your tube and go to Effect – Mura Meister Copies and change to Wall Paper (darken) with the default settings:
Picture
You can play around with the numbers if you want to. Click ok.
Change the layer properties to Overlay.

Activate your Preset Shapes and find a butterfly. The one I used is called “SK Butterfly Wings 08” I don’t remember where I got this from. If you don’t have it, you can use any other you like.
With the background colour set to black and foreground to null, and make a butterfly. See my tag for reference to size. Convert to raster.

Select All, Float, Defloat and hide the butterfly layer. Go to the layer below and hit Delete. Do the same with the layer below. (Copy (3) of Raster 1)

Hide all layers except the layers where you deleted the butterfly pattern and Merge Visible. Unhide the layers again.Click inside the butterfly with the Magic Wand and Expand the selection by 2.
Keep the selection active and go to Copy (2) of Raster 1.
Go to Effect - Eye Candy 6 – Swirl and change the settings to this:
Picture
Repeat this on the other backgrounds, but hit Random Seed each time.
Once you have done it to all 3 background layers, choose Deselect.
Go to the Overlay layer and add a drop shadow with these setting; 0, 0, 100, 5, Black.
Delete the black butterfly layer. We don't need it anymore.

Add the tube again and place on the right side. I resized mine down to 80%.
Add a drop shadow or use Perspective Shadow with the blurry setting:
Picture
You can also use other versions of Perspective Shadow.

Add a new layer and flood fill with a dark colour from the tube. I used #454a4e (dark grey from the tube). Select All and contract the selection by 3 and hit Delete. Deselect and add the same drop shadow you used on the Overlay layer.
Crop your creation with Merge Opaque.

Add your name using the same colour you used as the frame. Convert to raster and add a Gradient Glow. I used Eye Candy 4000 and the Fat setting, with these numbers; 3, 25, 100 and the same colour I used for background.
Add a drop shadow to the name.
Add proper copyright and save your creations.

Open it in your Animation Shop or Photoshop and animate as usual.
If you are using AS, don’t forget to slow down the animation some. Probably somewhere between 20 and 30.
I animate in PS and I set the delay to 0.4.

Save as gif and you’re done!

Here is another example with music notes instead of a butterfly, using a tube by Rita Kirby:
