Red Riding Hood - PTU

This tutorial was written December 5th, 2013. I used Corel X5, but it should work in other versions as well.
It’s assumed that you have working knowledge on how to resize and working with layers.
Any similarity to any other tutorial is purely coincidental.
Please look at my TOU for more info.

The supplies you need:
Any tube or image you decide on. I’m using a stunning tube by Sarah Bennett. At the time I wrote this tutorial, she was selling at My Tubed Art. I don't know where she is selling now, but I will update the tutorial when I find out.
I also used a stunning PTU kit called “Red Christmas” by CBJ. This kit is no longer available at any stores.
Here is a preview of the kit:

Materials you need:
A mask of your choice. I used “DD_WinterMask_11” by Dangerously Delicious (Dee).
A font that you like. I used “A&S Christmas Script”. This is a PTU font.
I also used “PF Rhonda Seven” (size 8px, anti-alias off) for the copyright (Optional)
Eye Candy 4000 – Gradient Glow (Optional)

My settings for drop shadow: -3, -3, 70, 8, Black.
I always add the drop shadow to the layers once I’m done, but you can add the drop shadow as you go if you like.

Lets get started!

Make a new transparent canvas 700x700 px.
Paste a frame and resize if needed. I used CBJ_RCBracetFrm and resized it down by 55%.
Paste the tube (or an image) underneath the frame and place in position.

Back on the frame layer, click inside the frame with your Magic Wand.
Expand the selection by 5 and add a new layer underneath the tube layer.
Paste a paper of choice inside the selection. I used CBJ_RCP3.
With the selection still active, go to the tube layer, Invert the Selection and hit delete.

Paste RCFlakes right above the paper layer. Resize it by 50% and hit delete to get rid of the bits that are outside the frame. There are multiple ways to do this, so just do it the way you prefer.
Deselect.
Activate the bottom layer and add DoodleFrame as a new layer. Resize it down by 75% and rotate it 20 degrees to the right.

Now it’s time to have some fun and add some elements :)

Activate the top layer and add RCHolly as a new layer. Resize it down by 50% and place it at the bottom center.
Paste RCArrangement as a new layer. Resize it by 50%, mirror it and place it at the top right corner of the frame.
Paste CBJ_RCRedDec and resize it down to 30%. Place it at the left center of the frame. Look at my tag for reference.
Paste CBJ_RCRibbon1 or 2 and resize it by 50%. Rotate it 90 degrees to the right and place it underneath the Holly layer. Move it towards the left, duplicate and mirror the copy.
See my tag for reference.
Paste CBJ_RCABranch2 right above the Holly, resize it by 50% and place it towards the bottom right side. Duplicate and mirror. Merge these 2 branches together.
Paste CBJ_RCGiftBow as a new layer right above the Branches and resize it by 50%. Place it at the bottom center.
Go back to the Branch layers and remove the thicker sticks that are sticking out below the GiftBow. See my tag for reference to what I removed and placement.
Activate the bottom layer again and add CBJ_RCBerrieDeco. Resize it by 50% and place it in the top left corner.

Now you can add any other elements you want.

If you’re done with that, go to the bottom layer again. Select all and paste a paper into the selection.  I used Paper 12. Deselect.
Add a mask to this layer and Merge Group. You might want to play around with it a little with the Pick Tool. At least that’s what I did.

If you haven’t added a Drop Shadow to the layers, now it’s time to do so.
I even added the Drop Shadow to the mask layer to make it pop.

Crop your tag with Merge Opaque.

Activate your Font Tool and type out your name.
Convert to Raster and add a Gradient Glow with one of two colors from the tag.
I used the Fat setting with 2 red colour and these settings:
Picture
Add the same Drop Shadow to the name.
Resize your tag down to 500px on the longest side.
Add proper copyright info and save as PNG.

Thanks for trying my tutorial.
I’d love to see what you make :)

This tutorial was written June 30th, 2013. I used Corel X3, but it should work in other versions as well.
It’s assumed that you have working knowledge on how to resize and working with layers and selections.
Any similarity to any other tutorial is purely coincidental.
Please look at my TOU for more info.

The supplies you need:
Any tube you decide on. I’m using a stunning tube by Verymany at Pics For Design.
I also used a PTU kit called “Eterrnal Torment” by CBJ. Unfortunately this kit is no longer available in any stores.
Here is a preview of the kit:

(Click on the image to see it in full view)
In my second example at the bottom, I used an old FTU kit called “Turquoise Dream” by Vixpsp.

Materials you need:
A mask of your choice. I used “BigMask018" by Vix.
A font that you like. I used “WHaupe_Circus”.
Eye Candy 4000 – Gradient Glow (Optional)

My settings for drop shadow: 3, 3, 70, 8, Black.

Make a new canvas, 750 x 700 pixels.
I start by pasting the tube and move it to the bottom left. You can also do this towards the end of the tutorial if you want. The reason I do it now, is because she is sitting and she isn’t centred, so it makes it easier to paste all the bits I want to use behind her.
The tube I use has been colorized to match the kit. Do not do this unless you know how to colorize and it’s allowed according to the artist/company TOU.
I resized my tube down by 50% and added a drop shadow to it (using the settings mentioned above).

Paste a frame below the tube. I had to resize mine down by 50% and I moved it slightly to the right.
Activate your selection tool with the rectangle setting. Draw out a rectangle that follows the frame, like this:
Picture
Add a new raster below the frame and paste a paper in to the selection.
I used P13.
Select none. Add a drop shadow to the frame.

Time to add some elements. I used only a small selection from the kit. Here is a list with name, size and placement:
Envelope: down to 30%. Placed at the bottom towards the bow on the frame.
I took my freehand selection tool and traced a part of the ribbon like this:
Picture
I promoted the selection to a layer and moved it above the envelope.
Select none and go to the frame layer. Carefully erase along the area where you got a double drop shadow (underneath the selection you promoted). Make sure that you don’t remove too much.
Red sequins: Resize down to 40% and place at the bottom of the envelope.
Stars: resize to 40% and place above the paper, inside the frame. Duplicate and move it below the other stars. See my tag for reference.
Lilac Blue: Resize down to 40% and place it behind the envelope, a little up and to the right.
Red Flutter: Resize down to 40% and place it on the Lilac Blue.
Flower3: Activate the bottom layer and paste the flower. Move it up and a little to the left.
Red Plant: Resize to 60% and place it below Flower3, up and to the left.
Cardboard Heart 2: Resize down to 30% and place in front of the envelope. Rotate 15 degrees to the left.
Add any other elements you like.
Add a drop shadow to the layers.
If you haven't added your tube already, now is the time to do it.
Don't forget to add a drop shadow to the tube layer as well.

Activate the bottom layer and paste a paper as a new layer.
Add your mask and merge group.
Crop your tag with Merge Opaque.
Add your name or saying and place it to your liking.
I placed it on the heart and rotated it 15 degrees to the left before converting it to raster.
I added a Gradient Glow using two different shades of red/pink from the tag.
I used the Fat setting and these numbers:
Picture
I also added a drop shadow to the name.
Resize your tag to 550px on the longest side
and add proper copyright to the tag.
I always add a thin Gradient Glow to the copyright info, in a contrasting colour or one that matches the background.

Save your tag in png or jpg and you’re done!
Thanks for trying my tut J
Hugs Lithy

Here is another example using a FTU kit by Vix:
Picture
I also used a few elements from other FTU kits she has released in the past and colorized them to match the tag.
